Reasons For Divorce

Reasons Marriages Fail

Marriages fail for many reasons, people stop loving each other, they move in different directions or they cannot live together without arguing and separation is the only option they can find.

Below are some common causes for marriage failure, it may be too late for a relationship you are leaving now but being aware of these could help you in the future.

  • Non Communication – without a doubt this is the main reason marriages fall apart. People do not communicate their hopes and wishes in depth before they marry. Then as the marriage continues they feel they are not heard thus creating distance and eventual divorce. Most of the reasons below could be avoided if communication skills are used before and during the marriage.
  • Money – never agreeing on how to manage money is a common reason for people to fight. People tend to argue about bills, debt, spending, income and really every financial issue.
  • Expectations – people tend to get married without fully discussing the expectations for themselves, their spouse or their life together. Most people go into marriage with an ideal of married life and when the marriage falls short there is disappointment and with still no discussion marriages can fail.
  • Children – can be a huge source of tension in a marriage. When children come along the ideal romantic marriage is rocked to its very core. The raising of children can be huge conflict as parents disagree on issues such as discipline, diet, hobbies, sports, schooling and the responsibilities of each parent.
  • Sex – can be a major cause of stress between spouses. As a marriages settle such issues as regularity, extent, quality, and of course infidelity are all common causes of stress and can cause or contribute to the end of a marriage.
  • Friends –can come between couples in so much as they are allowed to. If either spouse puts time with friends in front of time with their spouse, over time this can lead to discord, indifference and eventual divorce.
  • Family – in-laws can be overwhelming and controlling especially when a couple does not have a strong idea of the marriage they want. When one of the spouses feels that decisions are being made by a family committee and not a partnership then it can get overwhelming and divorce can seem the only option.
  • Responsibilities – who does what and who is responsible for what are crucial indicators to a happy union. When one person feels swamped with an unequal amount of the marriage duties then friction will undoubtedly follow. Once these feelings become entrenched and no solution can be reached then there may be no other answer but to leave the relationship.
  • Time Apart – whether through work commitments or life style choices, time away from each other can lead to apathy in the relationship, not relying on each other or finding other people to rely on, the end result is that the marriage ends.
  • Personality Traits – annoying or abusive personality characteristics will destroy a relationship eventually. These include habits that may have been cute before marriage but drive people crazy after a while.

Marriage failure is a terribly sad event especially if open communication and trust could have saved it. Being aware of the reasons marriage fail may give empower you to behave differently when you again have the chance at a long term relationship and happy marriage.
