A wealthy landowner accused of murdering his wife in a dispute over a divorce settlement told a court how she threatened to “get all your assets”.
Adrian Prout, 47, of Redmarley, Gloucestershire, is accused of killing Kate Prout, 55, the day after receiving an increased divorce demand.
Mr Prout told the court she said she would take all his money so he would not be able to continue his business.
Mrs Prout’s body has never been found and Mr Prout denies her murder.
‘Money and finances’
He told Bristol Crown Court how volatile Mrs Prout would become during arguments between the couple.
Mr Prout said: “We were arguing about money and finances. About settlement of the divorce and what she was entitled to. The figure that comes into my head was £600,000.”
He had no problem with that, Mr Prout told the court.
He added: “She would have said, ‘I’m going to get all your assets. You won’t be able to carry on your pipe-laying business.’
“I said, ‘All the assets are in my limited company name. You can’t touch them’. That wasn’t true, but it was to wind her up.”
Mr Prout denies murdering his wife who disappeared on 7 November 2007.
The case continues.
